We are delighted to announce our September date for The Courthouse Singing Sessions in the Courthouse.
Our special guest on Sunday 19th September will be Caitríona Ní Cheannabháin. Caitríona is a native Irish speaker from Ard East Carna in Co. Galway. She was very fortunate to be born into the musical Canavan Family. Caitríona grew up in a house full of music and song with parents Michael, a very well-known sean-nós singer and musician, her Mother Nora also a singer and her 6 brothers and 4 sisters….her Dad and her Granny always singing, lilting and playing melodeon.
Caitríona is singing from a very young age. She went to school in Ard West, a stone’s throw away from her home and was very lucky to have grown up with some of the legends of the sean-nós singing tradition. Her neighbour Dara Bán MacDonnacha used to visit her parents and she learned the old Irish songs by listening to them beside the fire. Caitríona can be seen and heard on TG4 and on airwaves around the world. Caitríona believes if you have a singing voice there is nothing to stop you from singing any type of song. She can be heard singing sean-nós, ballads, country and often in church at different occasions. Caitríona always says ‘That positivity and music is the key to a happy life’….
Traditional Singer Rachel Uí Fhaoláin will present The Courthouse Singing Sessions on Zoom on Sunday 19th September from 9pm -11pm and the event will be live streamed on The Courthouse Arts Centre YouTube channel.
