Who can apply..
This award is open to professional artists of all disciplines (arts practitioners, artists, curators, technicians or producers) living and creating art in the South-East region.
SEVN encourage and welcome applications from people of all genders, nationalities, races, cultural backgrounds, ages, religions, languages, abilities, sexual orientations and socio-economic statuses.
Purpose..
The award will financially support the chosen artist over 1 year allowing them time and space to reflect and develop their work at any stage in their career.
Each participating arts centre/venue contributes significant support to the award apart from NOH (Non Arts Council funded contributing BIK – space/mentor marketing/PR).
What will the artist receive?
The successful artist will receive a €14,000 bursary to support art practice development across 2024-2025. The expected work timeline will run from July 2024 to June 2025.
Aside from financial supports, the recipient will also receive support in-kind and – where relevant and possible – access to facilities, technical, management and communications supports, as well as mentoring, from the most suitable participating arts centres within the network. These venues are Wexford Arts Centre, Theatre Royal Waterford, Courthouse Arts Centre, Tinahely, Co. Wicklow, Mermaid Arts Centre, Bray, Wicklow, Garter Lane, Waterford, National Opera House, Wexford, Visual, Carlow and Watergate Theatre, Kilkenny
Terms and conditions for the successful applicant
§ The recipient will be asked to create a report and to participate in an artist talk or presentation on the development of their work at any one of the SEVN venues, which will also be recorded for online sharing by the participating SEVN.
§ The ability to collaborate with and adapt to a flexible timeline for the bursary.
§ The recipient will be asked to complete an evaluation of the bursary and budget in order to assess the impact of this opportunity and for the purpose of sharing information with stakeholders.
§ Participation in publicity relating to the SEVN bursary.
§ Possible public engagement activity which may be in the form of an exhibition/workshop/performance/talk online and/or live to be agreed with SEVN Management.

Recipient of the 2023 SEVN Bursary
The bursary winner from 2023 was Palestinian circus artist Fadi Zmorrod.
“This bursary came at a pivotal time in my career and life, as a first time parent and also as a new member of the local community of the South-East of Ireland . I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and am very excited to explore the potential of each venue in the network. There is nothing more valuable to an artist than being given time and resources to develop practice, and for this I thank the SEVN network.”
Who are we?
The South East Venue Network, SEVN, is a group of 8 building-based arts organisations in the south east region of Ireland who came together in 2020. Each network member is represented on the committee by the senior leadership of the organisation.
The organisations are: VISUAL Carlow, The Watergate in Kilkenny, Theatre Royal Waterford, Garter Lane Arts Centre in Waterford, Wexford Arts Centre, National Opera House Wexford, Courthouse Arts Centre in Tinahely and Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray.
What do we do?
We spotlight the artistic community in the South East region, helping to raise the profile of the very high quality of work being made by excellent artists in the region.
We pool our resources to offer a bursary annually that supports an artist living and making work in the South East, both financially and with resources in kind (e.g. access to space, one on one advice from venue directors). We make the bursary available by open call, and this annual process helps us to grow our collective understanding of the artistic community in the region.
We meet regularly throughout the year by way of peer support, sharing information with one another about challenges being faced as individual venues, but also the challenges being faced by the artists in our region.
In 2024, we intend to have the first in an ongoing series of gatherings, designed to help the artistic community become better connected and to help the network improve understanding of the work we do both as individuals and together. We understand keenly the importance of solidarity, community and connection as the artistic community faces steeper challenges than ever with housing and cost of living crises intertwining to undermine the working and living conditions of so many in the sector.
